“Shaadi karke phas gaya” or "Zor Ka Jhatka” are some lyrics that come to my mind when I think of Bollywood songs post marriage. Not claiming that there are no happy songs but these are songs definitely ring a bell! Before writing this article I did some research, it was sad to find out that all the blogs majorly spoke only about how marriage negatively changes your life. ‘Eh Kaali’ , ‘Kaali Kaluti Jali Hui Roti’ are the adjectives I have grown up with. This is the life of a dusky girl; in a world obsessed with fairness. I belong to the GSB community (Goud Saraswat Brahmin), majority of the people in my community are fair! So my struggle started right from the beginning. Throughout school I have struggled with basic things that I shouldn’t be worried about. Like – constantly looking out for options to lighten my complexion, not playing in the sun & so on.
